HEALTH RECORDS
My moms are watched and helped through the birthing process as needed. All puppies are weighed after they reach 5 hrs and12 hrs old then daily to make sure they are thriving..I color code pups for this. If i feel suppliment feeding is neccessary then i begin suppliment bottle feeding as needed. The puppies all stay with mom as long as they are snuggling and keeping warm. Chilled pups can be devastating and hard to keep going, very rarely do I need to intervene and place with my 24hr care. i keep records of weights for myself only but will share if asked.. 2nd day I check colors/markings/ as well as boy/girl count to list on web pages.
Individual Families will recieve records of all vet appts. as well as my vaccination records as follows----
1. At 3 days old puppies will go to vet for first health checkup and get their tails docked. Please note dew claws are left in place. I have never had complications of leaving them intact. Just a couple more nails to trim..
IF AT ANY TIME I HAVE A FAMILY THAT WOULD LIKE TO LEAVE THE TAIL NATURAL ( NOT DOCKED) I WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY.. IF THIS IS OF INTEREST PLEASE BE AWARE THAT DEPOSIT MUST BE IN PLACE FOR THE SPECIFIC PUPPY WITHIN THE FIRST 2 DAYS. I WOULD LOVE TO END THE DOCKING TREND AND HAVE JUST NATURAL TAILS. I PERSONALLY LIKE THE TAILS ON.. WE HAVE MANY PUPPIES WITH INTERESTING MARKED TAILS AT BIRTH ESPECIALLY MY COCKER SPANIELS HOWEVER WHITE TIPS ARE OCCASSIONAL ON MY STANDARD COCKAPOOS..SOOO CUTE..
2. At 2 weeks preventative wormings are started. i use PANACUR from my vet. This is a 3 day course administered orally by a syringe. This covers several types of worms at one time instead of using 2-3 different meds for same treatments.
3. Follow Up PANACUR preventions are administered at 4 weeks and 6 weeks as well.
At 6 weeks I add another preventative medication by the name of ALBON. Also from my vet.. This one is a 5 day series and is started for several reasons. As puppies grow they become more suseptable stress from change ( here are just a few (new schedule, traveling, food or water changes, new environment, separation from their siblings or us,ect. This is when an organisms natural in many animals including dogs (coccidiosis just to name one inparticular) can cause health risk for the babies.. When a puppy stresses even just a little it makes them not eat or drink as much as normal..At first there is no sign but after the organisms start to thrive in their tummies it causes food to not settle causing vomiting, severe diarhea, lethargy, ect and causes the need for vet care. If left untreated death most of the time occurs.. It closely resembles the PARVO VIRUS.. I BELIEVE PREVENTION IS BEST POLICY.. AND IS FIRST AND FOREMOST IMPORTANT FOR MY BABIES NO MATTER THE COST.
4. 2nd vet check at 6-7 weeks ( at this time health certificates are also given for each puppy and new families.. And more more more WHEN PUPPIES LEAVE I also send another 5 days home of ALBON in individual day marked syringes with each puppy for transitional period in their new homes..and ALSO included another 3 days PANACURE for individual worming away from siblings to make sure all is excellant. and its not uncommon for a puppy to need 1 or 2 wormings individually when they have been treated as litters.
5. Puppies are given their 5-way puppy shot at time of leaving in witness of new family. AND treated with frontline spray (from vet and placed on neck,back and in the ears for preventative of earmites,fleas,ticks, lice,ect..ANY puppies still here at 9 weeks will get their first shot with notes and vial stickers placed in their charts and also frontline and any other needed preventatives.. I like to keep them on track. AND HEALTHY I DO INCOURAGE IVERMECTIN ORALLY FOR PREVENTION OF HEART WORMS MAINLY BUT IS GOOD FOR MANY OTHER PARASITES and THINGS. AND IF A COUPLE DROPS ARE PLACED IN EACH EAR CAN BE USED FOR EARMITES AND OTHER EAR PARASITES AS WELL. BOTH MAY BE DONE AT SAME TIME FOR CONVENIENCE. this is given monthly and much more cost effective than many other heart/ear/intestinal/and skin parasite treatments.
THEY ARE READY TO LEAVE AS SOON AS 6-8 WEEKS DEPENDING ON INDIVIDUAL MATURITY LEVELS
AT 3 WEEK INTERVALS YOUR PUPPY WILL NEED PUPPY BOOSTER SHOTS UNTIL THEY HAVE HAD A COMPLETE SERIES OF 3-4 TOTAL. AS WELL AS RABIES and any others recommended by your vet. I WILL SEND HEALTHY HAPPY PUPPIES BUT ITS UP TO NEW OWNERS TO KEEP THEM ON SCHEDULE FOR FOLLOW-UP VET CARE.. WE LOVE OUR BABIES AND TRY TO KEEP IN TOUCH WITH AS MANY FAMILIES THAT ALLOW US THE PLEASURE OF UPDATES.
